What you need
MATERIALS:
Beige worsted cotton — 40g — I used about 0.8 of a 50g skein — Lily Sugar'n Cream Beige or any worsted cotton
Orange worsted — 15g for pumpkin — about 1/3 skein
Brown worsted — 5g for stem
Hook: 5.0mm for cozy, 4.5mm for pumpkin
Notions: tapestry needle, scissors, stitch marker, small pinch of polyfill, one 2in cinnamon stick
Cup: standard 12-16oz to-go cup — about 10in around where the cozy sits

16 sc =4in wide — 4 stitches per inch
18 rows =4in tall — about 4.5 rows per inch
I measured this flat after blocking lightly. If your swatch is tighter (18 sc =4in) go up to 5.5mm. If looser (14 sc =4in) go down to 4.5mm.

The cozy — 32 sc ×16 rounds
Make 1
32 stitches around, 16 rounds tall — I measured 4in tall with a tape measure
COZY — Beige, 5.0mm — worked in joined rounds:
Ch 32, slip stitch to first chain to make a ring — make sure it isn't twisted
R1: ch1, sc 32 around, sl st to first sc — 32 sc
R2-R14: ch1, sc 32 around, sl st — 13 rounds — this is the main body
R15: ch1, sc 32 around, sl st
R16: ch1, sc 32 around, sl st — final round
Border: sl st 32 around once for a neat edge
Fasten off and weave ends inside.
Total: 16 rounds of sc. On my tape measure it came out just under 4in tall — about 3.9in to 4in depending on how you block it.

Total: 16 rounds of sc. On my tape measure it came out just under 4in tall — about 3.9in to 4in depending on how you block it.
Beginner tip: Put a marker at the start of each round and count 32 every round. It needs to stay 32 — if you have 33 you added one, if 31 you missed one. Fix it now and the cozy will stretch evenly.
The little pumpkin
Make 1
Magic ring, build body, add ridges and stuff, add brown stem — 1.75in wide ×1.25in tall
PUMPKIN — Orange, 4.5mm:
R1: Magic ring 6 sc — 6
R2: inc around — 12
R3: [sc, inc] 6 times — 18
R4: [2 sc, inc] 6 times — 24 — widest point
R5-R8: sc 24 around for 4 rounds — straight sides
R9: [2 sc, dec] 6 times — 18 — start closing
R10: [sc, dec] 6 times — 12 — add a small pinch of polyfill now — about a walnut-sized amount
R11: dec 6 times — 6 — close, leave a long tail
RIDGES — with long tail:
Thread needle, go from top center to bottom center, wrap around outside back to top, pull gently to make a ridge. Repeat 6 times evenly spaced. This makes 6 little sections.
STEM — Brown, 4.5mm:
Chain 4, sc in 2nd chain and next 2 chains — 3 sc — sew to top center of pumpkin.

Measurements on a real cup — honest numbers
HOW IT FITS — MEASURED ON MY CUP:
My cozy measures 8in around flat (doubled flat width 4in). On a cup it stretches to about 10in around.
A 10in circle is about 3.18in diameter in math (10 ÷ 3.1416), but to-go cups taper — wider at the top than the bottom — and crochet stretches a little. On my 16oz cup, the cozy sits at about 3.25in to 3.5in diameter at the bottom edge and a little looser near the top, so it grips without sliding. The 3.75in you see in some photos is with the cozy pulled up a bit higher where the cup is wider — it varies by cup brand.
