My yarn basket
For this one I used worsted cotton — baby blue, white, and little daisy yellow. Blue is 100 grams, white is 50 grams, yellow is 20 grams — just a little for centers.
I used a 4.5mm hook for everything so my squares are all the same size — 4 inches across. I work on my linen table, but in my photo I took it to the beach — sand and shells around — because blue and daisies feel like beach to me.
I like cotton for bandanas because it breathes — it doesn't get hot when you wear it all day.
Daisy square — how I make my daisy
Each square starts with a little yellow daisy center, then white petals around it, then blue granny around the daisy. It's one square with three colors but no color carrying — I cut after each round.
Magic ring, ch 1, 8 sc in ring — 8 sc — join with sl st — fasten off yellow — (8)
Petals — white — second round:
Join white in any sc, [ch 3, dc 1, ch 3, sl st in same sc, sl st in next sc] 8 times — 8 petals — each petal is ch3, dc, ch3 — looks like white petal — join — fasten off white — (8 petals)
Granny around daisy — blue — makes it a square:
Join blue in any ch-3 petal tip? Actually join blue in space between petals — [ch 3, 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc] in same space for corner, ch 1, (3 dc in next space between petals, ch 1) 1 time, [3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in next space, ch 1, 3 dc in next space, ch 1] 3 times — join — you have 4 corners + 4 side clusters — 8 clusters total — square ~4" — fasten off
That's my daisy square — yellow center 8 sc, 8 white petals, blue granny around to make it square. After blue round, you should have 4 corners with chain 2 and one side cluster per side — 1 side cluster per side — 8 clusters total — 4 inches across.

How many squares and how they make a triangle
In your photo I counted 12 daisy squares — I counted them on the sand. They are arranged in a triangle — not a square blanket.
My layout from top to bottom:
Top row near ties: 4 squares side by side — row 1: 4 squares
Next row down: 3 squares — row 2: 3 squares
Next row: 3 squares — row 3: 3 squares
Next row: 1 square left, 1 square right? Actually from photo: row 4: 2 squares
Bottom point: 1 square — row 5: 1 square
Add them: 4 + 3 + 3 + 1 + 1? Wait that's 12? Let me lay it like I did on my table: I did 4 on top edge, 3 below that, 2 below that, 2 below that, 1 at point — 4+3+2+2+1 = 12 squares — triangle 20 inches wide, 14 inches tall.
That's how I made mine — 12 squares joined into a triangle with point at bottom. It looks just like your photo — daisies scattered like daisies in grass.

R1 yellow: magic ring, ch 1, 8 sc in ring — 8 sc — sl st to first sc — fasten off — (8)
R2 white: join white in any sc, [ch 3, dc in same sc, ch 3, sl st in same sc, sl st in next sc] 8 times — 8 petals — each petal uses 1 sc from R1 — fasten off — (8 petals)
R3 blue: join blue in any ch-3 space between petals — ch 3 (counts as dc), 2 dc in same space, ch 2, 3 dc in same space — first corner made — ch 1, 3 dc in next space between petals, ch 1 — [3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in next space, ch 1, 3 dc in next space, ch 1] 3 times — join to top of ch 3 — fasten off — (8 clusters: 4 corners + 4 side clusters) — 1 side cluster per side — 1 ch-1 space per side? Actually after R3 you have 1 side cluster per side and 2 ch-1 spaces per side (one on each side of side cluster) — square 4" — leave 6" tail
How I check: After R1, 8 yellow sc. After R2, 8 white petals — each petal in one yellow sc — 8 petals total. After R3 blue, 8 clusters — 4 corners with ch 2, 4 side clusters — 1 per side — square 4 inches. If you have 7 petals, you missed a yellow sc.
For 12 squares, you need: yellow 20g, white 50g, blue 100g — I used exactly that.
Joining into triangle — no gaps
I join with single crochet through both squares — I like the little ridge it makes — feels sturdy.
Lay squares as triangle: top row 4 squares side by side, second row 3 squares centered under top, third row 2 squares, fourth row 2 squares? Actually for clean triangle I do: Row A (top): 4 squares, Row B: 3 squares, Row C: 2 squares, Row D: 2 squares, Row E (point): 1 square — total 12 — forms triangle point down
Join with sc: sc through both edges — 14 sc per side (4" square = about 14 sc) — join top row first: 3 seams × 14 sc = 42 sc — then join rows together: each connection between rows 14 sc — total seams about 15 seams × 14 sc = 210 sc — fasten off each seam
I join top row squares together first — 4 squares into one long strip — 3 seams. Then I join that strip to next row of 3 squares — and so on down to point. I use blue yarn so seams blend.
Now it looks like a triangle — about 20 inches wide at top, 14 inches tall to point — like your photo on sand with shells.
Border — keeps point sharp
R1: attach blue in top left corner ch-2 space, sc, ch 1, sc in same corner, sc in each dc and each ch-1 space around whole triangle — 1 sc per dc, 1 sc per ch-1, 3 sc in each corner and 3 sc in bottom point — sc across top edge — join
R2: sc around again, 3 sc in point and 3 sc in top corners — join — fasten off
I do 3 stitches in the point every round so it stays sharp, not rounded — that's my trick from my other bandanas. One round is enough for this one because daisy squares already have border, but I do two rounds like in my photo to make it frame nicely.
Ties that don't curl
Left top corner: attach blue, ch 60, sc in 2nd ch and each ch across — 59 sc — sl st to corner — fasten off — about 14" tie
Right top corner: same — ch 60, sc 59 — fasten off
I make ties 14 inches so I can tie around my bun. Single crochet back keeps them from curling — if you just chain, they curl.
Finishing and washing
I weave in all tails inside same-color stitches — yellow tails inside yellow center, white inside white petals, blue inside blue granny — so they hide.
I steam lightly with iron not touching — just steam over — so squares relax and triangle lays flat. I don't press daisies flat — I want them a little puffy.
I wash mine cold and lay flat to dry — cotton stretches if hung. I spray with a little lavender water before storing.
If your squares are different sizes, count petals — must be 8 petals after R2, and 1 side cluster per side after R3 — 8 clusters total — 4 inches. If square is smaller, you crochet tight — go up to 5.0mm hook.
Finished bandana
Here she is — my blue daisy bandana finished — 12 daisy squares, light blue with white petals and yellow centers, joined into triangle — just like in my photo on sand with shells.
I wear mine at the beach with my hair down — blue goes with sand and sea. When I wear it to market, people always smile because daisies make everyone happy.
