Before you begin
I've been seeing mini ghost keychains everywhere for fall 2026 markets — tiny white ghosts with little pumpkin feet that dangle from wooden beads. I saw that pin with five ghosts held by two hands over a cream cable knit with orange pumpkins, maple leaves, pine cones and cinnamon sticks, and I knew I had to make my own batch.
What I love is it's truly low sew. The ghost is one piece top-down with a wavy ruffle bottom made with simple shells, the pumpkin feet are tiny spheres that sew on in 2 seconds. I made my first one in 25 minutes, then made four more for a whole garland like the pin — my daughter lined them up on her shelf.
If you can do magic ring and single crochet, you can make this. I keep tension a little tight with white so it looks crisp — white shows stuffing if loose. I use stitch marker for the ruffle round because it's easy to lose count.
Materials I used
- White yarn: Worsted cotton — Lily Sugar'n Cream white, about 15 yards per ghost. Crisp white you see in pin.
- Pumpkin orange: Same cotton — 8 yards per ghost for 2 tiny feet. True pumpkin orange.
- Pink: Tiny scrap for blush — or pink chalk.
- 3.0mm hook: Tight for white so no gaps.
- Eyes: 6mm safety eyes (2 per ghost) — small black like pin. Or 5mm for mini.
- Keychain hardware: Gold key rings + lobster clasps, 14mm & 12mm wooden beads natural mix — 3 beads per keychain like pin + big garland beads for display.
- Stuffing: Tiny polyfill — very small amount per ghost.
- Tapestry needle, scissors, stitch marker.
- Props: Cream cable knit blanket, mini orange & white pumpkins, maple leaves, pine cones, dried orange slices, cinnamon sticks — exactly like cozy fall flat lay in your pin.
Sizing & what you'll need
Ghost: 2.5" tall, ruffle bottom 2" wide. Pumpkin feet: 0.6" each. With 3mm hook and worsted, ghost is palm mini size perfect for keys. If you use DK, ghost will be 2" — extra mini for zipper pulls.
Cotton holds ruffle wavy edge crisp — acrylic ruffle flops.
Abbreviations
MR = magic ring, sc = single crochet, inc = increase, dec = invisible decrease, hdc = half double, dc = double, sl st = slip stitch, FO = fasten off. Work in continuous rounds except ruffle.
Full roadmap - 5 steps

Step 1: Mini ghost body
All white, simple dome, then straight sides, open bottom that becomes ruffle.
R1: MR, 6 sc (6)
R2: inc x6 (12)
R3: [sc, inc] x6 (18)
R4: [2 sc, inc] x6 (24)
R5-10: sc around (24) — 6 rounds straight, little ghost tube
R11: [3 sc, inc] x6 (30) — slightly wider before ruffle for chubby bottom
R12: sc around (30) — stuff very lightly, only top 2/3, bottom stays empty for drape
Do NOT FO — continue to ruffle R13.
Step 2: Wavy ruffle bottom
R13: In front loop only, [sc, hdc, dc, hdc, sc] in each st around — creates 6 wavy shells around bottom. Or simpler: (sc, 3 dc in same st) x15 around — ruffles naturally.
My version like pin: [sc in FLO, 2 dc in next FLO] x15 — wavy but not too big.
Sl st to first sc, FO, weave tail inside. Bottom should be wavy frill like in your pin's 5 ghosts — fluttery edge.
Step 3: Tiny pumpkin feet x2
R1: MR, 6 sc (6)
R2: inc x6 (12)
R3: [sc, inc] x3, sc 6 (15) — slightly oval pumpkin shape
R4: sc around (15)
R5: [sc, dec] x5 (10) — stuff tiny with pinch of polyfill or scrap yarn
R6: dec x5 (5), FO, close, leave tail.
Stem: With brown or dark green, 2 sc in magic ring, FO, sew to top of pumpkin.
Make 2 per ghost, sew to bottom back loops of ghost at R11-12, 6 sts apart — dangling feet like in pin, they swing when keychain moves.
Step 4: Face - black eyes & pink cheeks
- Insert 6mm safety eyes between R6-7, 6 sts apart — slightly wide eyed cute like pin
- If ghost for kids under 3, embroider eyes with black yarn instead
- Blush: With pink yarn, 1 small horizontal stitch under each eye, 1 st wide — or brush pink pastel chalk like in your pin's soft pink cheeks
- No mouth — ghost is cuter without, like your pin — sweet and simple
Step 5: Wooden beads keychain & fall styling
- Thread gold key ring through top of ghost head (R1), add lobster clasp.
- String pattern per ghost like pin: 14mm bead, 12mm bead, ghost, 2 pumpkin feet already attached dangle below
- For garland display like main pin: String 5 ghosts on one long wooden bead garland — big 20mm beads between each keychain top, held by two hands for photo — exactly like your pin with 5 ghosts hanging
- Individual: 3 beads above ring (12mm, 14mm, 12mm) — boho fall look
Styling (copy your cozy fall pin):

How I finish mine
I weave white tail inside ghost, then I roll ghost gently to even out tiny stuffing. I keep bottom unstuffed so ruffle drapes — that's the kawaii flow in your pin.
For pumpkin feet, I sew with orange tail through back loops of ghost bottom, not front ruffle — so feet dangle below ruffle like little shoes. They swing when you walk — my daughter loves that.
My kitchen table moment: I made five ghosts Saturday with cinnamon apple tea and fall candles on. 2 hours for all five — 25 min each. First ghost took 30 min, fifth took 18 min. Put on cozy autumn playlist, so fun to make a little ghost family.
