Cat Buddy - Black Cat Halloween Amigurumi - Kawaii Plush

Before you begin

I've been wanting a black cat buddy for Halloween for ages — not spooky, but that chubby kawaii cat with big yellow eyes and pink cheeks that sits perfectly in your palm. I saw that pin with the black cat in a hand with "CAT BUDDY" text and close-ups, and I knew I had to make my own yarn version.

What I love about this one is it's one-piece body — head and belly together, no neck seam to sew. Ears are tiny and pointy, front legs are part of the body shape (I crochet them separately but they sew on with one stitch). The yellow eyes are what makes it glow like your pin.

If you can do magic ring and single crochet, you can make this. I keep my tension tight with black yarn — black shows gaps — so I use 3.0mm hook even with worsted. I count out loud and use stitch markers for eye placement.

Materials I used

• Black yarn: Worsted cotton — I used black Lily Sugar'n Cream, about 65 yards for one cat. Main body you see in your pin.
• Lavender purple: Small amount — 10 yards for bow — soft purple like in pin.
• Mustard yellow: Tiny — 5 yards for bow center + eye rims. Golden yellow like Halloween candy corn.
• Pink: Small scrap for w mouth and blush — light pink cotton.
• 3.0mm hook: Tight for black so stuffing doesn't show.
• Eyes: 10mm safety eyes (2) with yellow felt backing — or 12mm yellow rim eyes like pin. I make yellow rim with mustard yarn embroidery around eye.
• Whiskers: Black embroidery thread — 3 per side, thin like pin.
• Stuffing: Polyfill — generous.
• Tapestry needle, scissors, stitch marker.
• Props: Open palm photos, white background, natural light — exactly like your cute pin with "Cute!" handwritten.

Sizing & what you'll need

Cat is 4" tall, 3.5" wide, sitting 3" tall. Bottom flat so it sits. With 3.0mm hook and worsted, you get tight fabric that hides white stuffing under black. If you use plush chenille, cat will be 5" — extra squishy.

Black cotton is best — holds pointy ears crisp. Acrylic black pills and looks fuzzy.

MR = magic ring, sc = single crochet, inc = increase (2 sc), dec = invisible decrease, hdc = half double, sl st = slip stitch, FO = fasten off. Work in continuous rounds.

How I finish mine

I weave all black tails inside with needle, then roll cat in hands to make it extra chubby and even. I brush black yarn lightly with soft toothbrush — fluffs slightly and hides seams like real cat fur.

For whiskers, I use single strand embroidery thread and keep them thin — 3 per side like pin, not thick. I trim to 1" so they don't tangle.

My kitchen table moment: I made this cat buddy Friday with pumpkin chai and rain on window. 1 hour total — 25 min body, 10 min ears + legs, 10 min face + yellow eyes, 10 min bow, 5 min finishing. My cat kept trying to bat at the purple bow!
