My yarn basket — cream and orange on a cozy fall morning
For these leg warmers I used chunky bulky yarn — soft cream 250 grams for the main warmers, pumpkin orange 40 grams for the little pumpkins, and tiny bits of green and brown scrap 10 grams for the little stems and curly vines. I use a 6.5mm hook for the leg warmers so they are chunky and cozy and work up quickly — not tight — and a 3.5mm hook for the little pumpkins so they are tiny and neat — about 1.5" wide each.

How these leg warmers are made — chunky tube + little pumpkins
These leg warmers are simple tubes — you crochet a flat rectangle in half double crochet and then sew the side seam — or crochet in the round — I do flat then seam so it's beginner-friendly and easy to check size. Each warmer is about 14" tall and about 12" around at the top edge flat, which stretches to about 15" around when you put it on your leg — same warmer measured flat vs on leg — that extra stretch is just the chunky yarn stretching — and about 10" around at bottom near ankle flat, stretches to 12" — so it fits calf 12"-15". Then you make 6 little orange pumpkins — 1.5" wide each — and sew 3 on each warmer down the outer side.
The little pumpkins are tiny balls — 6→24 sts, stuffed lightly, wrapped 5 times for ridges — just like the pumpkin car charm and bandana pumpkins — 1.5" wide with green stem.
Cream leg warmers — make 2 — 14" tall
Ch 36 — chain 36 — about 12" wide flat — about 15" stretched around leg — foundation chain
Row 1: hdc in 3rd chain from hook — ch2 counts as first hdc — hdc 34 across — 35 hdc total — 34 + ch2 =35 — turn
Row 2-28: ch 2, hdc 35 across — 28 rows — each row about 0.5" tall — 28×0.5"=14" tall — 35 hdc each row — 35 stitches — no inc no dec — straight tube
Check after Row 14 — halfway — about 7" tall — 35 hdc — 12" wide flat, 15" stretched when worn
After Row 28 — 14" tall — 35 hdc — 12" wide flat both top and bottom, stretches to about 15" around leg when worn — straight tube for beginners — no taper — easy fit
Fasten off leave long tail 20" — sew side seam — whip stitch side edges together — from bottom to top — forms tube — 14" tall tube — 12" around flat, 15" stretched when worn
Make second same — 2 leg warmers — 14" tall each — 35 hdc ×28 rows — straight 35 all 28 rows
Each leg warmer is a flat rectangle 36 chains wide — about 12" wide flat — which becomes 35 half double crochets — and 28 rows tall — about 14" tall — each row about 0.5" tall with chunky yarn and 6.5mm hook. After 28 rows you have a rectangle about 12" wide flat and 14" tall — you sew the side seam with whip stitch — long 20" tail — from bottom to top — forms a tube. The tube is about 12" around flat, stretches to about 15" around when you put it on — same warmer measured flat vs on leg — chunky yarn stretches gently — fits calf 12"-15" — straight tube with no taper, 12" flat both top and bottom for beginners, easy fit.

Little pumpkins — make 6 — orange — 1.5" wide
R1: magic ring, 6 sc — 6
R2: inc 6 — 12 — 6 inc
R3: [sc, inc]6 — 18
R4: [sc 2, inc]6 — 24 — widest about 1.5" wide — 24 sts
R5-7: sc 24 — 3 rounds straight — pumpkin body about 0.8" tall — 24 each round
R8: [sc 2, dec]6 — 18
R9: [sc, dec]6 — 12 — stuff lightly with orange scrap
R10: dec 6 — 6 — close with needle — leave long tail 18" — wrap tail around outside 5 times pulling gently for 5 ridges — like real pumpkin — tie — pumpkin 1.5" wide ×1" tall with 5 sections
Stem — brown/green scrap, 3.5mm — ch 4, sc 3 — 0.6" stem — sew on top center
Make 6 pumpkins — each 1.5" wide — 3 per leg warmer
Pumpkins are tiny balls — start 6→24 — widest 1.5" wide — 3 rounds straight at 24 sts — body about 0.8" tall — then decrease 24→18→12→6 and close — stuff lightly — leave long 18" tail — wrap around outside 5 times pulling gently for 5 little sections like a real pumpkin — tie — 1.5" wide ×1" tall — with brown stem 0.6" tall sewn on top center — just like in your photo with little green stems on orange pumpkins down side of cream leg warmers.
Little orange pumpkins — six tiny orange pumpkins with brown stems and green leaves — about 1.5" wide each — 5 ridges — on linen table with orange yarn — real photo — 3 per leg warmer.
Sewing pumpkins down the side
1. Leg warmers — 2 tubes — each 14" tall — 35 hdc ×28 rows — 12" wide flat, 15" stretched — side seam sewn
2. Pumpkins — 6 total — 1.5" wide each — 3 per warmer
3. Place 3 pumpkins down outer side of each warmer — spaced about 3" apart — top pumpkin about 2" down from top edge, middle about 6" down, bottom about 10" down from top — 3" spacing — covers upper 10" of 14" tall warmer, leaves about 4" at bottom near ankle without pumpkins so they don't rub on shoes — like in your photo — 3 pumpkins down side seam line
4. Sew each pumpkin with orange tail — 2-3 stitches through pumpkin bottom and through leg warmer — secure — weave tail inside warmer
5. Optional — add tiny green curly vine next to stem — ch 10, 2 sc in each chain =18 sc curled — sew next to stem — like tiny vine — optional but cute like in your photo
I sew three pumpkins down the outer side of each leg warmer — spaced about 3" apart — top pumpkin about 2" down from top edge, middle about 6" down, bottom about 10" down — so they run down the side seam line covering the upper 10" of the 14" tall warmer, leaving about 4" at the bottom near the ankle without pumpkins so they don't rub on shoes and you have room to tuck the warmer into boots — just like in your photo where orange pumpkins with green stems sit down the side of cream chunky leg warmers — three on each leg, with space at ankle. I use the orange long tail to sew with 2-3 stitches through pumpkin bottom and through leg warmer — secure — weave tail inside.

When I wore them to get apples the next morning with my cream sweater, the lady at the farm stand said, "Did you make those? Those little pumpkins are so cute!" I laughed and said, "I made them yesterday with tea and pumpkins on my table." I hope you make yours on a cozy fall evening too — maybe with pumpkins and cinnamon sticks nearby — and wear them for apple picking, pumpkin patch, or just cozy coffee on the couch with warm light coming in.
Thank you for making these cozy pumpkin leg warmers with me — I hope they keep you cozy on crisp October mornings and pumpkin picking. If you make a pair, tag me — I love seeing your leg warmers. 🎃🧡🤍
